We offer three course formats to suit different needs:
Why choose Mother Matters for your prenatal education?
We believe that women will have a positive birth experience when they are empowered by knowledge and support. Prenatal education is far more than learning to relax and breathe through contractions; it is learning how to choose what is right for you. Our courses are designed for first time parents and those who would like to be more informed with a subsequent pregnancy.
- Our classes are consumer-oriented. Our classes explore all of the many options available to you, and cover the pros and cons of each choice. We believe that there is no "best" way to give birth. Our job is to teach you skills and provide you with knowledge so you can make informed decisions.
Our classes are comprehensive. Topics include anatomy, understanding the birth process, how hormones influence birth, coping strategies and skills, natural birth (including home birth and water birth), pain relief options, possible complications, technology use during birth, Cesarean section, newborn procedures, the physical and emotional aspects of the early postpartum period, breastfeeding, and early parenting. You will be presented with up-to-date and evidence-based information.
Our instructors are trained childbirth educators, experienced birth doulas and mothers.
Our classes use a closed-group format and are small. This allows for interaction during class and fosters relationships between the course attendees. Everyone's questions are encouraged!
